The Joys of Living in an Apartment

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

Sarah and I have lived in the same apartment since May 2006. We resigned our lease in April 2007 and received a copy of our rental agreement yesterday. I noticed that the rent listed was $60 lower than what we’ve been paying for the past 6 months and that adds up. So I go to our apartment office today and turns out we have been paying more than our actual rent and there’s a credit on our account for over $300. It would have been nice of them to send us a little letter either stating that we are paying our rent incorrectly and/or that we have a large credit on our account. Good thing I checked! I somehow think that if we had been paying less than our actual rent instead of more, we would have been notified immediately. Oh well, I just wrote a check for my half of November’s rent for about $180 less than what I have been paying for the past 6 months. My checking account is smiling.

The interview went well (I think) on Monday. It would be a great site and I would learn a lot if I ended up there for my externship. I didn’t feel a strong sense of "this is where I’m supposed to be" but it was my first interview so I don’t know if I’ll ever get that feeling. All in all, it was a positive experience. As LB put it, "I came out of there with a smile and that’s enough for me!"

I’ve had a nice weekend of relaxing by myself. We had movie night last night at Greg and Misty’s house–Misty cooked for us! We watched my kind of Halloween movies, "It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" and "Shaun of the Dead"–funny not scary ones :) Good times.

Interview!

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

I have an interview for an externship (fancy word for an internship) on Monday. It’s the first place that I’ve applied to that I’ve heard back from. I go back and forth on being nervous and not being nervous. My original interview date was in December so when they asked me yesterday to come in on Monday, it threw me off a little. I don’t feel very prepared because the suit I bought on Sunday for interviews needs to be hemmed (which I don’t think will happen by Monday morning), I have to go out of town and miss part of my clinic rotation, I’ve never been on a real interview but don’t want to do any practice role-playing ones beforehand, I can only think of 3 strengths and 2 weaknesses about myself that sound somewhat intelligent, and I need to think of smart questions to ask the people. On the other hand, I figure they’re trying to impress me as much as I’m trying to impress them so it’ll all work out. They’ll either like me or not (and vice versa). We’ll see how it goes!

When did it become the middle of October?!
