My friend Ashley came to visit me over the weekend. We met 2 years ago at Frontier when she was a year-long intern and I was a summer intern. We’ve kept in touch via email and blog postings. We were never BFF or anything but very comfortable friends. I like those kinds of friends–ones that don’t have to know every intimate detail of your life but that you can hang out with and talk about whatever without it being awkward. A comfortable friend. Ashley is in grad school in Chattanooga and loves to travel. When we were interns we talked of this great weekend where she would come to Texas and we would go out for Mexican food and margaritas and then watch movies–which we dubbed our M^3 weekend. Finally, that dream became a reality.
Ash flew in late on Friday and we stayed up late just chatting and catching up. She brought me an Elvis mug from the Memphis airport because she always remembers my blind-date Elvis impersonator story and laughs. Saturday we had a lazy morning, then her friend Molly came over. The three of us started on our adventure for the day. First on the list, lunch at my favorite sandwich place: the Great Outdoors. We then drove by Callier-Richardson, headed south and drove past downtown, then up again to Callier-Dallas. I got to show Ashley where I go to school, the classrooms that we have various classes in and the audio booths. Our next stop was the Science Museum to see the Body Worlds exhibit but we didn’t buy tickets in advance and they were sold out until Sunday at 5:30. Since Ash’s flight was at 4:10 the next day, that didn’t really work for us. We drove to some outdoor shops and walked around until dinner time. Then it was time for the M^2 part of our weekend. Off to Uncle Julio’s where we all ate yummy food and drank yummy drinks.

Sunday we went to church then I had my special needs kiddos during second service (Ashley braved the streets of Dallas in my car to hang out at the apartment during that). We decided on breakfast food for lunch and drove out to Cracker Barrel for some good grub. After lunch we had time for a quick trip into a Texas souvenir shop so Ash could take back a little piece of Texas to her friends in TN. Then it was time to board her flight. Even if we didn’t get to the third M (movies–specifically You’ve Got Mail), it was a fabulous weekend. Now I just have to get back to the reality of school! Thanks for visiting Ash!
